About Vandy
My aim is to capture a sense of space; to allow the viewer to get a feel for being in a particular place. My work is expressive, in some instances moving towards being semi-abstract. I want to invite the viewer to bring something of themselves into the experience of seeing my work.
I grew up in South Africa, a place that still influences my painting in discernible ways. I am fascinated by pictures that capture light, and I am drawn to strong colours. My landscapes evoke feelings of space and often include an element of scale. Floral and abstract paintings in my portfolio have an energy which comes from their vibrant colours, and way the pigments blend on the paper.
I paint mainly in watercolour. I find it thrilling when a picture demands attention. Watching images emerge on the paper is something I find captivating. This is the aspect of watercolour I find the most enthralling, and the reason I am drawn to its freedom and flow. However, I also have an experimental side which draws me to working in a wider range of mediums as my practice develops.
Here at Wonky Wheel we love Vandys artwork. Some of her current paintings and prints are on display in our gallery in Finchingfield and a selection can also be bought online below.
