A gentle classical vase form. The lower half is left unglazed (but polished) for a tactile contrast. Thrown on the potter's wheel, and then decorated with coloured slips (liquid clay). My pieces are bisque fired to 1000 degrees, then glazed before firing again to 1250 degrees, which vitrifies the clay, producing a wonderful depth of colour. The sweeping marks on this vase are inspired by a local river. Transferred to the clay quickly and spontaneously, they reference the constant state of flux of the river, always moving and changing with the seasons. Perfect for spring flowers or autumn grasses.
