The artist and I spoke about this painting as I wanted to understand what inspired this piece of Artwork. He went out painting during the period of the year where is seems like its a mix of Summer, Autumn and Winter within the same day. Light purple skies in ever-shortening evenings and a distinct chill that suggests winter is looming. He had just finished reading A place called Winter' by Patrick Gale and felt inspired by the tremendous sense of place that was captured in his beautiful words. Determined to do the same but with a painting, he ventured into the Norfolk countryside. He was in a bit of a hurry when leaving and forgot the card on which I was going to work, so I rummaged around my car and found a cardboard box which he managed to transform into this characterful artwork. It's a piece that symbolises and embraces the changes we all experience during a year.
