Pick, Mix and Make a Fascinator
The session will begin with participants trying on some examples of fascinators to help them decide which style they would like to make. We will be using a straw fabric called ‘sinamay’ to make three different design elements which will then be mixed together to make a fascinator.

About the event
Have you ever looked at a fascinator in a shop and thought I quite like this, but fancy it in a different colour?
Or perhaps you’ve wanted to take an element from one piece, and add it to another?
Or perhaps you’ve just wondered ‘how do they make that’?
If any of those strike a chord with you, why not come and learn how to mix and match and make your own fascinator?
When you arrive there will be an assortment of fascinators in a variety of colours and shapes for you to try on to find out what you like. All of them will have been made using the techniques you will be learning, so you can find out what works for you.
Over the course of 2 ½ hours you will learn three different techniques, a twist, a curl and a flower.
Then, it’s over to you to decide how you want to mix and match them to make your own fascinator.
I did do the maths to work out how many permutations there were of mixing and matching two elements in different colours. Let’s just say the possibilities are endless.
And as The Mad Hatter from Alice said ‘It’s always tea time’ so we will definitely have tea!
Places are limited to 6 people, so do book now.
Basic sewing skills are required, but if you might struggle, don’t worry, I’ll help!
Details of the session
The session will begin with participants trying on some examples of fascinators to help them decide which style they would like to make.
We will be using a straw fabric called ‘sinamay’ to make three different design elements which will then be mixed together to make a fascinator, which will be sewn onto a headband.
Everyone will learn the same techniques, but due to how they mix and match their elements and colours, every fascinator will be unique.
I like to finish off with tea and cake at the end, so everyone can wear their creations.
Skill Level – Need to be able to do basic sewing, but if someone really struggles, I can help
Health and Safety – no specific requirements. Scissors will be used
