croucherli is the work of ceramic artist Lizzie Croucher, producing hand thrown pottery - specifically one-off and small batch items, with their own little personalities. croucherli is a one-woman ceramics venture - all pieces are designed, thrown, trimmed, sculpted, fired, glazed, fired again & packaged by Lizzie.
Lizzie works out of her home studio in Colchester, having been previously based in Kent, London & Suffolk. Before turning her hand to pottery, she trained in Contemporary Dance and spent 5 years dedicating her work to arts in the community (dance & visual art) as well as spending a year as Head Technician, installing exhibitions for Firstsite Gallery in Colchester. In 2018 Lizzie decided to dedicate more time to her ceramics practice; after making a gradual transition out of the office & into the studio, croucherli became a full-time business venture for Lizzie in late 2020.
Lizzie hopes that, through croucherli, she can extend a smile to everyone who sees or owns a piece of her work.
earth friendly approach
Lizzie is committed to operating a consciously low waste practice, keeping her business aligned with my personal ethos & lifestyle.
All of her waste clay is recycled and made into new pieces. Although this is common practice for ceramic artists, Lizzie harnesses this process to create completely individual pieces from a recycled mixture of her two regular clay types.
Any plastic bags or containers her materials arrive in are reused - clay bags are homes for recycled clay, bag ties turn into tools, and glaze pots are used to mix new glazes or store liquid mixtures.
All of Lizzie’s packaging is plastic free; recyclable, dissolvable or reusable. Orders arrive to their new homes lovingly nestled in hand-stamped paper, paper tape, paper bubble wrap & dissolvable packing peanuts.
Here at Wonky Wheel we are looking forward to the arrival of Lizzie's beautiful ceramic work. Soon to be on display in our gallery in Finchingfield and a selection can also be bought online below.
